We take great pride in the way we raise our animals. At Third Day Organic Farm all animals are pasture-raised. Our beef products are grass-fed, non-GMO, and free of antibiotics and hormones. Our pork, chicken and eggs are pasture-raised, supplemented with non-GMO feeds, and free of antibiotics and hormones. We are proud to produce products that our local community can feel confident in!
Our herd is composed of Angus and Hereford cows. Our cattle are on pasture-rotation, meaning they are continually moved through the fresh pastures. They are entirely grass-fed and supplemented with non-GMO hay from the very beginning. Our cattle are never given grain and are free of antibiotics and hormones.
Our happy hogs are pasture-raised and live beneath the shade of many trees. This gives them perfect opportunity to spend their days foraging. Their diet also includes non-GMO grain. Our hogs never receive antibiotics or hormones.
Our broiler chickens and egg-layers all start out on the farm as chicks. The first few weeks of their lives they stay indoors, under direct light to regulate their body heat. As soon as their feathers come in, they are ready for pasture! Our chickens are raised on organic-pastures and supplemented with non-GMO feed. They are given shelter each night to protect them from the weather elements and predators. They are raised hormone and antibiotic-free.
Our approach differs from many conventional-methods in which the animals are often kept in close confines with one another, with little space for them to move about in their natural habitat. Conventionally-raised meat contains the antibiotics and hormones that are fed to the animals to avoid sickness since their natural processes are disrupted.
The benefits to our methods can not only be seen in the health and overall wellness of the animals, but also in those who consume meats that are raised this way. Grass fed beef is higher in Omega-3s, lower in saturated fat, higher in vitamin E, and higher in CLE - a nutrient associated with lower cancer risk.
